Sigrid Kaag, party leader of D66, has responded to the fall of Rutte-IV through its own channels. She speaks of one ‘politically difficult time’. “We see the compromise as a way to bring our ideals closer. That is give and take, even if it is sometimes difficult. After long and intensive talks, the cooperation in the coalition ends today. D66 entered into the talks constructively. Negotiations were tough. We have always looked for the right tone, attitude and content.”
,,Unfortunately, the differences have proved irreconcilable. I find that regrettable. There are major challenges for the Netherlands: climate, housing, education. Given the challenges of our time, a war on our continent, no one benefits from standing still because of a political crisis.”
