Lucho Cuéllar, well-known cumbia music singer and former member of the popular Group 5, opened his heart in an interview for the program ‘You are in all’. During the conversation, he shared details about his tough beginnings, the challenges of his career, and the impact of fame on his personal life.
What did Lucho Cuéllar say about the problems with his wife due to fame?
Lucho Cuéllar He remembered his childhood after his father abandoned him. Despite this adversity, she found a way to move forward in music. His career took off when he joined the Team 5 , one of the most successful cumbia orchestras in Peru. However, popularity came at a high cost to his family life.
The singer explained that, during his time with the cumbia group, he had to maintain an exhausting work pace, which affected his relationship with the mother of his children. “She got tired because there were so many trips. She arrived at 8:00 am and we left at 3:00 pm on the trip, another 15-day tour. I am very sorry for not having shared my childhood with my children, not having spent time with them, of having seen his first falls, his first little words. I dedicated a lot to work.” the interpreter accepted.
The artist regretted having lost important moments of his children due to his career. “My oldest daughter is 19, my son is 15 and my youngest daughter is 14. I couldn’t enjoy them because of work,” he added.
What does Lucho Cuéllar think about fame?
Lucho Cuéllar also spoke about the dark side of popularity and success. He admitted that, upon achieving fame, he began to indulge in excessive partying and alcohol. “I have always gone out to have my drinks with my friends, but when I started working hard, I no longer had holidays, I didn’t have birthdays, Mother’s Day, my children’s birthdays. The opportunity I had, I took it to a thousand; What he didn’t do in a month, he did in a few hours,” said the singer.
And not only that, but the cumbia performer admitted that fame can become a “disease” if you don’t know how to deal with everything that comes with it. “Fame, as I said in some interviews, makes you sick if you don’t know how to treat it. I didn’t burn through stages in my life, I ran straight ahead” he claimed.
These actions affected the people close to him, especially his mother, who suffered from seeing her son lose himself in the popularity he achieved. “It didn’t hurt me, but it hurt the people I loved. My mother was the one who suffered the most; I’ve seen her cry because of me. I haven’t been lying on the street, in a smoke shop or walking around like crazy, selling my things… I have been strong, I have stayed strong and I will continue to be strong,” Cuéllar confessed.
