Luis Castro, the new Al-Nasr club coach, will be the second Portuguese to supervise the legend Cristiano Ronaldo in his career with clubs for 21 years, after their compatriots Jose Mourinho, who coached “CR7” in 3 seasons with Real Madrid.
Luis Castro became coach of the Saudi club Al-Nasr on Thursday, with a contract that extends until 2025, as he joined the preparatory team camp in the Portuguese Algarve.
Jose Mourinho was the first Portuguese to coach a 5-time Ballon d’Or winner, as the latter played 164 matches under the leadership of the famous coach, scoring 168 goals and crowned the 2011-2012 league championship, the 2010-2011 Spanish Cup and the 2012-2013 Spanish Super Cup.
Cristiano Ronaldo has been leading the front line for Al-Nasr club since last January, when the Al-Asimi team contracted with him, and he played the second half of the 2022-2023 season in the Saudi Roshen League under French coaches Rudi Garcia and Croatian Denko Jelicic.
In the 21 years that Ronaldo played, he was supervised by several coaches of different nationalities, including the Scotsman Sir Alex Ferguson, the Englishman Michael Carrick, the Dutchman Erik ten Hag, the French Zidane, Rudi Garcia, the Croatian Dinko Yelisic, the Norwegian Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Romanian Lazlo Bologni, the Austrian Ralph Rangnick, the Spaniard Rafael Benitez and the Chilean Manuel Pellegrini.
The Italian school is the most supervising of Cristiano Ronaldo after he was coached by Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, Mauricio Sarri, Andrea Pirlo and Massimiliano Alegre in his three years with Juventus.
