Russian Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova expressed condolences to the family and friends of director Vladimir Naumov, who died on Monday, November 29.
“A wonderful director, screenwriter and producer, People’s Artist of the USSR Vladimir Vladimirovich Naumov has passed away. He connected his life with the art of cinema and already from his debut work declared himself as a person endowed with a unique talent and inexhaustible creative energy, ”reads the telegram sent to the Union of Cinematographers of Russia.
Lyubimova mentioned such films of the director as “Tehran-43”, “Running”, “Peace to the incoming”. According to her, the glory of Naumov is inextricably linked with these films, and his characters have become a symbol of enormous moral strength.
The director died at the age of 94. The cause of death was not named.
Vladimir Naumov was born in Leningrad in 1927. The director’s father was a cameraman, and his mother was an actress.
In 1952, Naumov graduated from the directing department of VGIK. In 1983 he received the title of People’s Artist of the USSR, and in 1985 became a laureate of the USSR State Prize.
In addition to the above films, Naumov, together with director Alexander Alov, shot such films as “The Legend of Thiel” and “Bad Joke”. He was one of the screenwriters of the television series How the Steel Was Tempered and starred in the films Burn, Burn, My Star, Theft and Third Impact.
