The Governing Council of the Community of Madrid has approved at its meeting today a decree to extend the maximum age that vehicles that provide transportation of passengers with autotaxi license.
This is due to the fact that Decree 74/2005, of July 28, which approves the Regulation of Urban Public Transport Services in Tourist Cars, establishes the norm that these vehicles cannot “continue dedicated to the activity taxi from that are older than ten yearscounted from its first registration”.
Thus, vehicles over 10 years old will be able to serve as taxis after the extension of the term, a rule that would be in force until the end of this year, that is, until until December 31, 2023.
Requirements to benefit from this extension
However, those interested in taking advantage of the extension in order to continue using the vehicle will have to comply with the requirements imposed by the new approved textwhich will be valid from the day following its publication in the Official Gazette of the Community of Madrid (BOCM).
Thus, those taxis that the January 1, 2023 have exceeded ten years old, as well as those professionals in the sector who prove that they have formalized the purchase of a new vehicle before December 31 of last year and they still haven’t received it.
Why has the deadline been extended?
The Ministry of Housing, Transport and Infrastructures has proposed this moratorium due to the global economic context and the energy crisis that affects production vehicular.
In fact, this has caused significant delays in delivery times of new cars, especially significant in the case of electric cars and those adapted for people with reduced mobility.
