Prayagraj. Yesterday, Mafia Atiq Ahmed’s benami property worth Rs 6 crore was confiscated. Along with this, both the properties in Arail, Naini were confiscated under the Gangster Act and a notice board regarding confiscation was also put up. The police claim that Atiq Ahmed had bought both the properties in the name of sweepers of two of his close associates.
Police sources say that the sale deed of both the lands was done at a low price but currently their market value is about six crore rupees. Police say that Atiq (Mafia Atiq Ahmed) and Ashraf created benami properties worth 8 crores in the name of Shyamji Saroj, a sweeper from Karauli village of Nawabganj. Shyamji himself told the police that he used to work as a sweeper at the house of real brothers Javed and Kamran, residents of Atrasuiya and also told that both were close to Atiq Ahmed.
Both the brothers, along with their acquaintance Faraz and another, forcibly got the benami properties of Atiq (Mafia Atiq Ahmed)-Ashraf registered in his name. He was held hostage and made to sign the documents and after the death of the mafia brothers, he was pressurised to transfer the said properties in their name. Giving information, DCP Nagar Abhishek Bharti said that on the orders of the court, the Police Commissioner has confiscated both the properties under the Gangster Act. Also, notices have been put on the illegal properties.
It is noteworthy that, under the leadership of former DCP Nagar Deepak Bhukar, the city zone police took swift action against the benami properties of Mafia Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf. Along with this, Atiq’s property worth 12.50 crores located in Gauspur Kathula of Airport police station area was also confiscated. However, even before this, all the properties of the mafia were confiscated under the Gangster Act, but none of them could be vested in the government, now for the first time this property has been vested in the government.
