Ahmedabad. A major accident has occurred at Porbandar airport in Gujarat. ALH Dhruv helicopter of Indian Coast Guard has crashed. The helicopter crashed during a routine training flight. According to the information received from the ICG officer, there were three people including two pilots in the helicopter. All three have died in this incident.
While taking off, the helicopter had a technical fault due to which the plane crashed. The injured have been admitted to the hospital. According to media reports, the Coast Guard helicopter met with an accident at Porbandar helicopter at around 12 noon on Sunday. The helicopter was on a routine flight and the accident occurred while the helicopter was landing. The helicopter caught fire during landing. There were a total of three people in the helicopter, including two pilots.
All three died in this accident. It is noteworthy that last September itself, the Dhruv helicopter of the Indian Coast Guard was the victim of an accident in the Arabian Sea. Three crew members had gone missing in that accident. One crew member was rescued. Earlier in March also, Navy’s Dhruv helicopter had to make an emergency landing in the Arabian Sea.
Dhruv helicopter was manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. After several years of test flights, it was inducted into the Indian Air Force in 2002. This helicopter can seat 12 people including two pilots. This can be used for both military and civilian purposes. Dhruv helicopter can also be equipped with anti-tank guided missiles. Besides, air-to-air missiles can also be fired from it. Dhruv helicopter is considered to be the best helicopter of its category.
