Imphal: A video of two women being dragged naked and humiliated in Manipur’s Kangbokpi was released last Wednesday and caused a shock, police said, and a fifth person has been arrested in connection with the incident.
The arrested person has been identified as Yulemembam Nungsithoi Maithei. As the 19-year-old youth has been arrested, the number of people arrested in this case has increased to 5 so far. It is to be noted that the 4 persons who were already arrested were remanded in judicial custody for 13 days.
Meanwhile, there is a report that 2 more women were sexually assaulted and killed in Manipur on May 4. On May 6, a 45-year-old woman’s clothes were thrown away and set on fire, which has been reported on social media. It has also been reported that the dead body of the woman was lying in a charred state. The incident seems to have taken place on May 6 in the capital Imphal.
What happened on May 4? According to the FIR registered at the police station, the armed gangs looted houses, set them on fire, raped women and killed many before carrying out the atrocity in Manipur where two tribal women were paraded naked and paraded through the streets. Soldier’s Agony: Meanwhile, the husband of one of the two women taken in the procession is an army veteran who fought in the Kargil war. In an interview given to the local television, he said, “I fought in the Kargil war. I was also part of the Indian peace team that went to Sri Lanka. I was able to protect the country but I could not save my wife and my fellow villagers.”
