Imphal: Reports coming from there suggest that life is slowly returning to normalcy in riot-hit Manipur.
In this case, it seems that 23 thousand have been evacuated from there so far. And the army has intensified aerial surveillance there to ensure that riots do not break out again.
Meanwhile, the curfew has been relaxed from 7 am to 10 am. The relaxation of the curfew has been implemented so that people can buy essential goods.
Don’t believe rumours: Union Minister Rajkumar Ranjan Singh has said not to believe the rumors spread on social media regarding the violence in Manipur. The situation in Manipur state is improving now. He also said that the army is engaged in rescuing tourists and students from other states.
Similarly, North Eastern States Development Minister G Kishan Reddy said that the central government is ready to negotiate with the groups fighting over the issue and reach a solution.
What is behind the riots? Clashes erupted between the two groups during a tribal peace rally on Wednesday protesting the inclusion of the Mede community, who make up 53 per cent of Manipur’s population, into the Scheduled Tribes category. Later it turned violent and spread across the state. The state of Manipur was engulfed in violence. The state government called in the army and the Assam Rifles to control the violence. At the same time curfew was imposed in 8 districts of the state and internet services were also disabled. In order to control the violence, rioters were ordered to shoot on sight. The army and Assam Rifles have been deployed to control the violence.
