New Delhi. Sisodia, who has been in jail for 17 months on charges of money laundering, has got a big relief from the Supreme Court. Former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia will be released from jail after 17 months. The Supreme Court has granted bail to Manish Sisodia on a bond of Rs 10 lakh in the Delhi liquor policy case.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) strongly opposed Sisodia’s bail, but the bench of Justice BR Gavai and Justice KV Vishwanathan rejected their arguments. The big thing is that Sisodia has got bail in the cases filed by both CBI and ED. Therefore, now there is no obstacle in Sisodia coming out of jail.
The court had reserved the decision on August 6 after hearing the arguments on Sisodia’s bail. Sisodia had argued while seeking bail that he has been in jail for the last 17 months. The trial has not started yet. Nothing has been recovered from him. In such a situation, he should be granted bail. CBI and ED had opposed and said that Manish Sisodia is responsible for the delay in the trial.
The Supreme Court bench said that bail is the rule, jail is the exception. The judges said in their order that Manish Sisodia’s bail plea is accepted. The bench said that the order of the Delhi High Court is rejected. He is granted bail in both ED and CBI cases. Sisodia has also submitted his passport and reported to the police station as a condition of bail.
