A special military operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass has been carried out by Russia since February 24. You can track the progress of the advance of the joint troops of Russia, the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DNR and LNR), as well as see the map of hostilities as of January 7 in the Izvestia material.
According to the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Lieutenant-General Igor Konashenkov, despite Russia’s observance of the silence regime, the Ukrainian army continued shelling. So, in the Krasnolimansky direction, the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out 11 mortar attacks on Russian positions. On the Soledar, Avdeevka and Maryinsk directions, Ukrainian militants fired artillery 51 times on units of Russian troops.
There were also attacks on residential areas. In particular, over 60 large-caliber shells were fired at Donetsk by Ukrainian troops, and American HIMARS multiple rocket launchers hit Makiivka.
In addition, in the Donetsk direction, the RF Armed Forces thwarted an attempt by units of the 110th mechanized and 79th air assault brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to attack Russian positions in the areas of Krasnogorovka and Georgievka (DPR). Enemy losses as a result of return fire amounted to 50 Ukrainian servicemen killed and wounded, a tank and a car, Konashenkov specified.
Also, according to the Ministry of Defense, five rockets of the Uragan and HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems, as well as a US-made HARM anti-radar missile were intercepted in the areas of the settlements of Makeevka, Guselskoe (DPR) and Ocherevatoe of the Zaporozhye region.
At the same time, on January 5, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to introduce a ceasefire along the entire line of contact in Ukraine from 12:00 Moscow time on January 6 to 24:00 on January 7.
Moscow also called on the Ukrainian side to declare a ceasefire and allow people to attend church services on Christmas. However, the Ukrainian side rejected calls for a truce and continued shelling.
Russia continues a special operation to protect the Donbass, whose residents refused to recognize the results of the 2014 coup d’état in Ukraine. The decision to hold it was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by Ukrainian troops.
