An Argentine court has postponed until March 2025 the long-awaited criminal trial of seven of the eight-person medical team accused of negligence in the death of soccer legend Diego Armando Maradona.
The trial was due to start next month, after a previous postponement in May, but was postponed again to March 11 next year, according to a ruling seen by AFP.
Maradona, who led Argentina to victory in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, died in November 2020 at the age of 60, while recovering from brain surgery due to a blood clot, after decades of battling cocaine and alcohol addiction.
The former Napoli star was found dead in bed two weeks after undergoing surgery in a rented house in an upscale neighborhood of the capital Buenos Aires, where he was taken after leaving the hospital. It was later revealed that he had died of a heart attack.
