On September 6, just a few minutes after knowing the outcome of the Morenoist “corcholatometer”, the cartoonist José García Hernández, better known as “Hernández”, published a cartoon of his authorship on his Twitter account, accompanied by the following phrase : “Exactly three months ago I made my cardboard for tomorrow:”.
His caricature shows a Marcelo Ebrard with a grim expression who, standing in front of a mirror, observe how the reflective surface returns the image of Ricardo Mejía Berdejacandidate for Morena’s candidacy for the Government of Coahuila in this year’s electoral process.

Personally I have no reason to doubt the veracity of monero’s words and, consequently, I must believe him when he claims to have been clear, three months before, the destination of the former chancellor’s adventure within the selection exercise Brunette.
In any case, Hernández released a caricature whose accuracy increases as the facts accumulate. Because, except for one relevant difference, Ebrard seems to be replicating the steps of someone who, like him – but at the state level – tried to become the favorite of the new “divine finger.”
Let’s take a brief look at the collection of parallels for all to see:
The first is related to the growing aggressiveness in the treatment towards those who ended up prevailing in the exercise. Both Mejía in Coahuila, and Ebrard at the national level, gradually became angry with whoever was leading the polls. The only difference in this was the place of both in their respective contests: Ebrard did challenge Sheinbaum for victory.
Secondly, the absence of both at the event where the results were officially announced should be noted, although it is worth noting a couple of nuances. First: Marcelo was not even in the private session in which they announced the numbers to the contenders, while Ricardo Mejía did attend said event and, second: at the event related to the Coahuila candidacy Not only Mejía was absent but also Reyes Flores.
A third similarity is the ignorance of the results based on basically the same arguments: The survey was done poorly, there were loaded dice and the national leadership, headed by Mario Delgado, acted with partiality. The two demanded the reinstatement of the process.

In this case, however, there was a difference in timing: Ebrard was ahead of the Morenoist leadership and went out to ignore the results before their formal announcementwhile Mejía let a few hours pass to go out to demonstrate.
Then, the two decided to “play with time” citing, among other things, the need to meet with their followers to collectively define the destiny of “their movement”, an expression in which they agree again. Mejía said he led a “Coahuila movement”; Ebrard claims to be on the path to integrating the “progressive movement.”
Finally, even when both fiercely attacked the national leader of Morena and disdained the calls for unity launched from the winning corner of the internal process, They have been careful not to break with President López Obrador for those who only have words of recognition.
And it is precisely in the attitude of the real leader of Morenoism where the only notable difference – and, perhaps, transcendent – is found in the history of these two candidates whom not a few point out as having acted naively: López Obrador has been kind to Ebrard, while he uglyly ignored Mejía, even on two occasionsbecause in that case he did have the interest of making clear the distinction with whoever was his close collaborator.
The soap opera has not yet concluded, but surely there will be no major parallels… especially because, As things look, Ebrard will not have a place on the 2024 presidential ticket.
Happy weekend!
