Tamil Nadu Paralympian Mariappan Thangavelu has been selected as the new captain of the Indian team to carry the national flag at the Paralympic Games to be held in Tokyo in August.
Mariappan Thangavelu, who won the gold medal in the high jump at the 2016 Paralympics, is proud to lead the Indian team carrying the tricolor flag this time.
The 2020 Paralympic Games are scheduled to take place in Tokyo. However, the competition has been postponed due to the spread of the corona virus, which runs from August 24 to September 5. In the meantime, the Olympics will be held from the 23rd to the 8th of August.

There were various challenges due to the corona virus, however, the players and athletes are all better prepared mentally and physically for this match and they are not losing confidence. We have been encouraging them to stay in constant contact with the players since last March.
We made some really bold decisions for the benefit of the players. The national competition in March this year was the highlight. It was a challenge to complete the training during the Corona period, but training was provided with strict restrictions.
