Marine Layer, a clothing company, has implemented a recycling scheme known as Re-Spun that offers the possibility of obtaining financial compensation for old and used t-shirts instead of throwing them away when they are no longer wanted.
If you decide to give your clothes away for recycling, you could get a credit of up to $5, which you can exchange for any Marine Layer merchandise.
This credit is given to you for each item of clothing that you give to the company. This means that if you give them 10 shirts, you could have up to $50 in credit.
Of course, the shirts must meet certain requirements to be given credit.
First of all, Marine Layer seeks that they are pure cotton t-shirts, although they can be of any brand and can be in any conditionso you should not worry that they are broken or stained.
Please note that they are not accepting sportswear made of spandex material.
In order to obtain your credit money, you must fill out a form on the official Marine Layer site. Once this is done, the company will send you a recycling kit, which consists of a package where you can send your shirts by mail. All this is free.
You can also take your shirts to any store participating in the Re-Spun program.
Once Marine Layer has received and accepted your shirts, You can activate your credit to spend it on any product that the company sells on its website or in its physical stores.
Marine Layer has said that thanks to its Re-Spun recycling programme, which launched in 2018, it has managed to reuse more than 475,000 T-shirts.
Marine Layer has a goal of reaching 600,000 by 2024.
