For his part, Vice President of the UAE Athletics Federation, Fahad Abdullah bin Juma, stressed that the participation of runner Maryam Al Farsi in the Paris Olympics is a step in the right direction to qualify Olympic champions at the highest levels to represent the UAE in international and Olympic championships.
“Maryam Al Farsi’s participation in itself is an important achievement that represents a solid foundation for working on the development programmes adopted by the Federation since it took over the reins of power. We were keen to provide the necessary requirements to give her the opportunity to participate in the Olympics and demonstrate her capabilities, as we realise that reaching this stage enhances her ambition and contributes to establishing an honourable image of the Emirati girl and benefiting from the great experience with the elite champions around the world,” he explained.
He added: “We are proceeding with implementing the Federation’s plan, headed by Major General Dr. Mohammed Al Murr, which aims to expand the base of practicing the “mother of games” in the country, and attract new talents and resources that have the ability to represent the UAE in major forums, in an effort to increase the number of male and female players for upcoming participations at all levels.”
