Nigeria. More than 48 people were killed in a petrol tanker explosion in the African country Nigeria on Sunday. According to a report, the accident occurred at around 12:30 pm on the Bida-Agai-Lapai highway in the north-central state of Niger. Abdullah-Baba-Ara, Director General of the Niger Emergency Management Agency, confirmed this.
The director-general said the disaster site was two kilometres from the Dendo community in the Agege local government area of the state. Abdullah-Baba-Ara said the accident occurred when a petrol tanker collided with a trailer truck carrying passengers and cattle on its way from Wudil in Kano state to Lagos. A crane and a pick-up van were also hit.
More than 48 people have been confirmed dead in this accident. While more than 50 cows were burnt alive. The Director General said that the agency’s quick response team and other local emergency management committees (LGEMC) have reached the spot. The bodies are still trapped inside the trucks.
