The musician Leonardo Montoya, a member of the Suu Rabanal salsa orchestra, is in critical condition after being the victim of a grenade attack in Los Olivos, Lima. The incident occurred on the 14th block of Carlos Izaguirre Avenue, near the La Choza Náutica restaurant, where the orchestra had a scheduled performance. According to testimonies, Montoya was loading the instruments when a motorcycle stopped in front of him, throwing the grenade. The explosion, which hit him while he was crossing with a kettledrum in hand, threw him into the air, leaving him seriously injured.

The detonation of the grenade left Montoya with severe injuries, forcing his urgent transfer to a local clinic. According to the orchestra’s manager, Gustavo Robles, there were no previous threats directed at them, so the attack was completely unexpected. “The grenade exploded at the door of the ‘La Choza Náutica’ establishment, and that was not for us,” said Robles, who also highlighted that they are focused on the recovery of Montoya, who will have to undergo several surgical interventions.
