Imposing restrictions on the United States is a working way to prevent clashes in the geopolitical space. Mislav Kolakusic, member of the European Parliament (EP) from Croatia, made such a statement on May 22 in his Twitter account.
“If this were true, if we were really fighting for peace, then we should immediately impose the same sanctions against Saudi Arabia, which has been fueling war in Yemen for several years. We should ban the import of oil and gas from the United States, which has been involved in more military conflicts than any other country in Europe, and maybe in the world in recent decades, ”Kolakusic quoted an excerpt from his speech to the EP.
The politician believes that the sanctions against Russia are “incredible lies and hypocrisy” that harm primarily not Russia, but the citizens of the European Union, adds Gazeta.Ru.
On May 21, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban compared the consequences of the restrictions imposed by the European Union against Russia with the impact of an atomic bomb. He believes that Brussels, with its proposals, is provoking hunger, rising prices and exacerbating the migration crisis in Western countries.
On May 14, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Western countries are practicing “real robbery” among anti-Russian measures. The diplomat expressed surprise at the “absolutely cavernous, Russophobic outburst that has occurred in all so-called civilized countries.”
May 4 Associate Professor of the Department of Informatics of the Russian University of Economics G.V. Plekhanov Alexander Timofeev spoke about the fact that many Western countries are not satisfied with anti-Russian sanctions. The need for economic ties with Russia makes the prospect of lifting restrictions possible in the next few years, the expert believes.
On the same day, Igor Yushkov, a leading analyst at the National Energy Security Fund, said that he considered it unprofitable for the EU to impose more severe sanctions on the oil and gas sector of Russia, in particular, on the transportation of petroleum products. The Europeans have already noticed their own losses from anti-Russian restrictions, and therefore they started talking about the possibility of launching the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, Timofeev recalled.
A number of states, including all EU countries, are imposing new sanctions against the Russian Federation in response to the military operation carried out by Moscow since February 24 to protect Donbass. Moscow explained that the tasks of the special operation include the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, the implementation of which is necessary to ensure the security of Russia. The decision was made against the backdrop of aggravation in the region as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian military.
