The US giant Microsoft revealed on Thursday that a group of hackers based in China had carried out ddozens of attacks on Taiwan government entities for possible espionage purposes.
Taiwan Island, considered by China as its own territory to recover, has long accused Beijing of cyberattacks against its government networks.
Microsoft said Thursday that the group Flax Typhoon located in China has attacked since mid-2021 mainly “government agencies and organizations in education, key industries and information technology in Taiwan”.
Observed activities suggest they were trying to “spy on and maintain access to organizations in a wide range of industries for as long as possible,” the computer giant said in a post.
The firm ensures that the group of hackers it also has “victims” in Southeast Asia, North America and Africa.
Microsoft warned earlier this year that Chinese state-sponsored hackers had infiltrated critical infrastructure networks in the United States, with the likely purpose of disturb them in case of conflict.
