New Delhi. After iOS and Android, Microsoft has now announced the discontinuation of its digital assistant Cortana app on Windows 11.
Cortana has been deprecated as a standalone app in Windows, with support for Cortana in Teams Mobile, Microsoft Teams Display, and Microsoft Teams Room ending at the end of 2023.
The company said in an update, “Cortana will continue to be available in Outlook Mobile. We understand this can affect the way you work, but there are new and exciting ways you can get help with your tasks, calendar, email and more.”
Cortana originally started as a digital assistant in Windows Phone, and was later integrated into Windows with support for voice commands, reminders, and the ability to open applications.
However, Cortana has struggled to compete with its rivals such as Alexa or Google Assistant.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella admitted in 2019 that Cortana lagged behind competitors.
Three years ago, Microsoft discontinued its Cortana apps for iOS and Android.
However, Microsoft said that there are new features, which are better than Cortana.
The company said, “Voice Access is a new feature in Windows 11 that lets you control your PC and write text using your voice. You can use voice commands to open and switch between apps, browse the web, and read and write email.
The new AI-powered Bing lets users ask complex questions and get concise answers from trusted sources across the web. (IANS)
