Milka Franco, Shipibo leader, accuses Anis Samanez of verbal aggression and denies collecting US$5,000: "He said he had to ask for forgiveness"

The Peruvian designer Anis Samanez is at the center of a controversy after her statements in the ‘Origines 2024’ conversation. Samanez expressed his surprise because the Shipibo-Konibo community asked him for payment for sharing their cultural knowledge, which generated rejection both on social networks and in the Ministry of Culture, which described his comments as insensitive and discriminatory.

Given this controversy, Milka Francoa Shipibo woman from the Cantagallo community, has flatly denied Anis Samanez’s statements, accusing her of distorting the facts. According to Franco, Samanez verbally attacked her during a phone call, in addition to denying that a charge of US$5,000 had been made, as the designer stated in the conversation.

Milka Francowho is part of the Collective of Shipibas Muralists, flatly denied Samanez’s accusations. Through a statement on social networks, Franco explained that the amount quoted by the designer was distorted. He clarified that the initial agreement was S/.5,000 for each design, but Samanez disagreed and chose to pay less for the work done. “The price Anis paid was s/.400 for some embroidery that she had us do on some fabrics that she brought. The work lasted 1 week. In total she paid s/.1200 for a week of work for 3 people.”, Franco explained.
