Rewards poured in for the players of the Saudi Al-Hilal club after reaching the FIFA Club World Cup final on Tuesday, at the expense of Brazilian Flamengo 3-2 in the Moroccan city of Tangier.
And the website of the Saudi Ministry of Sports reported that Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, Minister of Sports and Chairman of the Olympic Committee, presented a “financial reward of 500,000 riyals (about 133,000 dollars) to each of the Al-Hilal players after qualifying for the Club World Cup final.”
Al-Hilal, led by its brilliant star Salem Al-Dosari and Argentine Luciano Vietto, wrote its name in the history of the competition, by defeating the numerically deficient Libertadores Cup champion 3-2 in the semi-finals, to meet in Saturday’s final the winner between Real Madrid, the Spanish European champion, and Al-Ahly, the Egyptian runner-up in Africa, on Wednesday in Rabat.
On the other hand, Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, an honorary member of Al-Hilal, announced that one million riyals would be awarded to each player, with the addition of another million in the event of victory in the final.
And the businessman tweeted, “My special gift to them for this historic achievement is one million riyals for each player. And in the event of winning the final, they will have another special gift, which is one million riyals for each player.
Al-Hilal became the first Saudi team and the third Asian team to reach the Club World Cup final after Japan’s Kashima Antlers (2016) and the Emirati Al-Ain (2018), and the third Arab team after Morocco’s Raja Casablanca (2013) and Al-Ain.
Al-Zaeem, the participant as the last to win the AFC Champions League title, opened his campaign with a hard-fought victory in a penalty shootout over Wydad Casablanca, the Moroccan host and African champion, 5-3 on penalties after they tied 1-1, then beat Flamengo in normal time 3-2.
