The Algerian newspaper Al-Bilad quoted Algerian Minister of Industry Ali Aoun on Thursday, saying that the German “Opel” and Chinese “JAC” brands had obtained licenses to manufacture cars in Algeria.
The newspaper did not mention the value of the licenses.
The newspaper quoted the minister as saying that Algeria will not grant any licenses to any dealer to import cars without setting up factories in Algeria to manufacture them locally.
In the same context, the minister indicated that 90,000 Fiat cars will be manufactured annually in Algeria.
Last October, the Algerian government decided to allow foreign manufacturers to import cars to sell in the country and to allow citizens to import cars less than three years old for personal use without commercial purposes, after stopping the import of cars for more than four years.
