By taking seven wickets, Shami set the record for the best bowling performance by an Indian player in ODIs. Shami has made legend the record that was held by all-rounder Stuart Binny for the last nine years. Binny’s performance in 2014 against Bangladesh in Mirpur was the first in this regard when he took six wickets for four runs.

Shami also holds the record of becoming the fastest bowler to take 50 wickets in an ODI World Cup. Shami completed 50 wickets in the World Cup from just 17 games. Shami surpassed Mitchell Starc who took 50 wickets in 19 matches.

Mohammed Shami has now become the first Indian player to take the most wickets in one edition of the World Cup. Shami broke Zaheer Khan’s record in 2011 World Cup. Shami’s collection in the World Cup is 23 wickets this time. The right-arm pacer has taken 23 wickets in just six matches.
