Mohanlal starrer movie ‘Alone’ directed by Shaji Kailash was released on 26th of this month as a Republic Day gift. The movie hit the theaters without much fuss. But, this film failed to impress the audience. It received severe criticism from the critics. Some critics criticized how a star hero like Mohanlal accepted such a story. The film collected only Rs.53 lakh gross in two days in Kerala. While the gross was Rs.43 lakhs on the first day, Rs.10 lakhs was collected on the second day. It is also doubtful whether ‘Alone’ will collect crores of rupees worldwide in the third day.
The budget of this film is also very low. Including print and publicity expenses, the budget is Rs.2.5 crores. ‘Alone’ failed to collect even this small amount. Hence, ‘Alone’ will remain the worst disaster in Mohanlal’s career. Mohanlal’s fans can’t stomach starting the year 2023 with such a rubbish movie. Some people are of the opinion that this movie should not be released in theatres.. OTT release is not enough. It is said that they have damaged the image of a star hero like Mohanlal by releasing it in theaters unnecessarily.
In fact, Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathan’, which released a day before ‘Alone’, is grossing more in Kerala. The movie grossed Rs.1.95 crore on the first day in Kerala. This is a record opening for a Bollywood film. It is reported that this movie has collected Rs.5 crore gross in three days. It is understandable that ‘Alone’ would be upset if the Kerala audience loves a Bollywood movie and not a Malayalam movie starring a star hero.
