The police in Limburg collected a moped from the A2 this morning. The driver of the vehicle had to go to Venray and had determined that the fastest route was via the highway. His driver’s license has been confiscated.
Soon after the driver, of whom no further details are available, had steered his 45 kilometer cart onto the A76 from the direction of Heerlen, the police received reports of motorists who were startled during their journey by a very slowly driving fellow road user. The police headed for the A2 near Geleen, where the driver had now arrived.
There the microcar was directed to a breakdown port by the driver of a truck. According to the Limburg traffic police, the driver had no awareness of the danger he faced. The man or woman even wondered out loud why the highway should not be used with a microcar. “The trip went to Venray and this was the best route,” the driver allegedly said, according to the police.
The officers suspect that the driver no longer has the correct driving skills and fitness to drive, they write in a message on Facebook. The driver’s license has therefore been confiscated and a report has been made to the Central Driving Skills Bureau. The vehicle was recovered from the highway by a recovery company and the driver was brought home by the police.
