Despite the restrictive measures in place in connection with the pandemic, tourism indicators in the Pskov region in 2021 increased compared to 2020.
As specified in the regional tourism committee, the tourist flow in 2021 amounted to more than 300 thousand people, while in the previous year only 257 thousand tourists visited the region. During the New Year holidays, Pskov hotels were almost completely filled with vacationers. This was reported to the Pskov News Tape in the press service of the regional administration.
“Many came by personal transport from St. Petersburg, Moscow, Murmansk, Tver,” the committee noted.
The point of attraction, in addition to the traditional Pskov, Izborsk, Pechora, Pushkinsky Gory, was Samolva, where tourists went to see the new memorial complex “Alexander Nevsky with his retinue” and the educational private museums “Battle on the Ice” and “Samolvovsky barn”.
Earlier it was reported that 140 million rubles will be allocated from the budget of Pskov for the development of sustainable tourism. The decision on this was made at a meeting of the committee on social issues, youth policy and tourism of the city duma. In particular, the municipal program was discussed, the implementation of which is designed for 2022–2027. The funds will be used to support the city’s tourism center and creative industries, develop new routes, expand the event calendar, and promote the city with information. In addition, in 2022, Leon Pozemsky Street from the Trinity Bridge to the border of the regional center should be reconstructed. Now in Pskov there are more than 300 historical and cultural monuments, 22 museums and exhibition halls.
