Today, Wednesday, the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, accused the West of destroying the international security system based on equality, stressing that Russia has acquired expertise in the field of nuclear deterrence.
Zakharova’s remarks came as a comment on the Western reaction to Russia’s suspension of its participation in the Strategic Offensive Arms Reduction Treaty “START”.
“Destroy the global security system lightly”
She added: “They very consciously, cold-bloodedly and cynically began to destroy the current security system in the world, simply because it presupposes equality, balance of interests, and reciprocity in a number of areas. They felt as if they had been humiliated by their equality with other entities, or with those with whom they are associated. They had contractual relationships, especially with us, because they had obligations with us.”
She also accused the West of “going too far in its concept of its exceptionalism,” adding that “the second moment, of course, is the desire to control everyone and everything. It is an attempt to break all commitments, to destroy a system that assumed a kind of shared responsibility and control over it in order to control everyone already.” .
Steps to ensure our security
While the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman stressed that the West “considered that this is the very moment in which they can declare themselves as the only center of power in the world,” noting that, accordingly, “they destroyed this system, and therefore what President Yutin talked about Yesterday we took steps to ensure our security.”
On Tuesday, NATO expressed its regret over Russia’s decision to suspend its participation in the Strategic Offensive Reduction Treaty, and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated that the decision on the START treaty completely dismantled the arms control structure.
It is noteworthy that Russian President Vladimir Putin announced yesterday the decision to suspend participation in the treaty during a speech addressed to both houses of the Russian parliament, in which he repeated his accusations that the West seeks to destroy his country.
