The number of destruction caused by beavers in Limburg in recent years is head and shoulders above the rest of the Netherlands. This is apparent from an analysis of data from the Water Boards.
The damage is increasing every year: where there were 700 cases in 2020, that was already 750 last year. In 2021 it cost about four tons to repair all damage. In addition, about 80,000 euros were used to prevent future destruction.
Between 2019 and 2021, 2050 vandalism was reported by the Limburg Water Board and the Limburg Water Board (WBL). Such destruction consists, for example, of digging a road through flood defenses or disrupting the water level by constructing a dam. In other areas the ‘beaver damage’ is relatively minimal. Limburg is followed by Aa en Maas (North Brabant), where 161 reports of damage were made in that period.
