Former national team player Mohamed Fawzi, who contributed with “Al-Abyad” to winning the “Gulf 21” tournament, which was held in Bahrain in 2013, revealed that planning to win the tournament began with the beginning of the team’s preparations to participate in the London Olympics, which was held in 2012.
He stressed that winning a Gulf championship is more difficult than winning continental and international championships due to the conditions of the tournament and its audience, so it requires greater and stronger preparations than others.
Fawzi told Emirates Today: “The team that won Gulf 21 was one of the most homogeneous teams and technically and physically prepared, thanks to regular follow-up from the Football Association, coach Mahdi Ali, and great media and public support.”
He added: “I trained under the supervision of national and foreign coaches, whether in the national team or in the clubs for which I played, and each of them had a different style from the other, but I see that coach Mahdi Ali is the best coach who led the team because of his ideal style through which he created a successful football family.” ».
