Mumbai: The police have been ordered to investigate the beautification of Mumbai serial blasts convict Yakub Memon’s grave.
In 1993, serial blasts occurred in many places in Mumbai, Maharashtra. A total of 257 people died in these blasts. More than 1,400 people were injured.
In this case, the trial court sentenced Yakub Memon to death. Yakub Memon was hanged in Nagpur Jail in 2015 after the Supreme Court upheld the hanging.
Following this, his body was brought to Mumbai and buried in the Muslim Cemetery (Kabaristan) there.
In this case, Yakub Memon’s body has been buried with marble stones and his grave has been decorated and beautified with electric lights. This has created a huge controversy in Maharashtra.
In this regard, BJP MLA Ram Kadam said on his Twitter page, “Mumbai serial blast convict Yakub Memon’s burial place has now been converted into a mausoleum. This defilement happened only when Uddhav Thackeray was the Chief Minister. The burial place of terrorist Yakub Memon, who carried out bomb attacks on behalf of Pakistan, was converted into a mausoleum during the rule of Uddhav Thackeray.
Is this their love for Mumbai? Is this patriotism? Nationalist Congress President Sarath Pawar, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi along with Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray should apologize to the people of Mumbai for this matter,” he posted.
In this case, the Mumbai Police has been ordered to investigate the matter. A senior police official said that the inquiry will be headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police.
But the Shiv Sena party led by Uddhav Thackeray has said that the BJP is taking this issue in its hands to divert the problems like inflation and unemployment in the country.
