The main department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the city of Moscow on Saturday, January 14, warned of freezing rain and ice in the capital. According to experts, the dangerous phenomenon will continue until the end of the day.
“In the next hour, with preservation until the end of the day on January 14, in some places in the city of Moscow, freezing rain, in some places ice,” the ministry’s website said in a statement.
Due to adverse weather conditions, the Ministry of Emergency Situations recommends residents of the capital to significantly reduce the speed of vehicles, increase the distance from vehicles in front, avoid sudden maneuvers and park away from trees.
The department urges pedestrians to bypass billboards and shaky structures, not to hide under trees.
On the same day, the Hydrometeorological Center reported that in Moscow on Saturday, light snow is expected in places, sleet, cloudiness and minimum negative temperature values.
Leading specialist of the Phobos weather center Mikhail Leus on January 11 warned of a new wave of cold in the capital in the third decade of January. He clarified that a repetition of extreme frosts that were observed in the region during the New Year holidays is unlikely. But it is too early to give accurate forecasts.
