Indian tennis player Sania Mirza has announced her retirement from Grand Slam tournaments with the upcoming Australian Open and complete retirement from professional tennis with the Dubai Open.
Already in 2018, Sania Mirza had decided to retire from professional tennis. However, due to an injury to his elbow, he did not perform it. In this case, he announced his retirement on Twitter yesterday (Friday).
The gist of that long post: 30 years ago, a 6-year-old girl fought the coach to let her on the Nizam Club tennis court. Yes, dreams always start young. By the grace of God I fulfilled my dream of becoming a tennis player and participated in Grand Slam tournaments. I have won a few medals and made the country proud.
My greatest honor is to win medals for my country. The moment when the national anthem was played and the tricolor hoisted as I stood to receive the award was emotional. Writing this gives me goosebumps. My eyes are watering.
All this would not have happened without the contribution of my parents, sisters, family, coaches, therapists, fans and supporters. I express my gratitude to each and every one of them.

I am happy that I am living my dream life with the support of my family. I have been in professional tennis for 20 years and as a tennis player for 30 years. I don’t know anything other than this. My Grand Slam dream started in 2005. In that sense, ending with the Australian Open would be the best Grand Slam journey. I am proud of what I have been able to achieve in the last 20 years. This sense of pride and joy will be the fondest memories I carry with me.
Yes, everything in life has to go through. This is not the end. This is another initiation. The beginning of a journey towards new dreams, new goals. Now my son needs me even more. I look forward to the days when I can spend more time with him.
Sania Mirza posted that the greatest memory of my tennis career is the joy and pride I saw on the faces of my fellow countrymen and supporters whenever I won.
