The cause of the failure in the pilot notification system, due to which domestic flights were suspended in the United States, could be a corrupted database file. This was announced on Wednesday, January 11, by the US Federal Aviation Administration.
“We are continuing a thorough review to determine the root cause of the air mission notification system (NOTAM) failure. Our preliminary work revealed a glitch in a corrupted database file. At the moment, there is no evidence of a cyber attack, ”the message posted on the regulator’s Twitter page says.
The US Federal Aviation Administration indicated that they are working diligently to identify the causes of this problem and are doing everything possible to prevent such failures.
Earlier that day, on January 11, all flights to the United States were canceled due to a malfunction in the pilot alert system. About 760 flights were delayed in the US, with 91 canceled, according to FlightAware.com, a flight tracking system.
