Since the beginning of 2022, the popularity of rare names for newborns has increased by 15% in Moscow. This was reported by the press service of the capital’s registry office on Tuesday, August 30, in the social network “VKontakte”.
In the capital, names that were rarely seen before began to gain popularity. For example, Miroslava, Yesenia, Miya, as well as Sergey and Adam – the popularity of these names grew by 15% in 2022 compared to the same period in 2021, writes the Moscow City News Agency.
As told and about. Head of the Moscow Civil Registry Office Svetlana Ukhaneva, this year the most popular baby names remain Alexander (this name was given to 1,565 boys) and Sophia (Sofya) – this is how 1,790 girls were named, writes Life.ru. Male names Mikhail and Maxim are second and third in popularity, respectively. Among female names since 2020, Maria and Anna remain popular, according to the website aif.ru.
In addition, the name Leo is becoming more and more popular. Back in 2019, it took the ninth place, and now it is the fourth.
“The steady growth of popularity in the top 10 takes on the name Matvey – since 2019, every year it rises one position up. And the female name Vasilisa only in 2022 entered the top 10 popular names and took ninth place, ”said Ukhaneva.
However, there are also names that are gradually losing their popularity. So, for several years now, residents of the capital have been paying less and less attention to the opportunity to name their children Grigory, Vladislav, Nikolai, Stepan, Yegor and Nikita, the site kp.ru notes.
In February, it was reported that in 2021, the names Leo and Eva were among the top five most popular names. Parents chose these names 10% more often than in all of 2020. So, over 1600 girls were named Evas, and more than 1700 boys were named Lions. Also, residents of Moscow began to give more preference to the names Miron (23% more often) and Yesenia (approximately 35% more often).
