Chennai: Tamil Nadu State Swimming Association organized the 39th Sub-Junior and 49th Junior National Diving and Water Polo Championships at the Velachery Swimming Pool Complex in Chennai yesterday.
Around 500 sportsmen and women from more than 16 states including Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, Gujarat are participating in this tournament which will be held till 22nd.
Services player Indivir Sairam scored 415.20 points and won the gold medal in the tiling competition in the Group-1 boys (16, 17, 18 years) 3m spring board category. Tamil Nadu’s U Abhishek scored 369.15 points and bagged the silver medal.
In the same category, Balak Sharma of Madhya Pradesh won first place with 292 points and Anusha Tara of Bengal came second with 257 points.
Bengal beat Haryana 22-2 and Gujarat beat Tamil Nadu 12-5 in the junior national water polo tournament. In the girls’ category, Kerala defeated Delhi 8-1 and Karnataka defeated Tamil Nadu 26-1.
