New DelhiEnforcement officials in Delhi yesterday held a serious inquiry into senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over the sale of shares in the National Herald newspaper. The trial lasted more than 11 hours.
The Associated Journals Association (AJL) was started by former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru before the country’s liberation. The National Herald was published on behalf of the organization. The Congress party has lent Rs 90 crore to the newspaper as it has been running at a loss for the past few years. However, the National Herald was shut down.
Then in 2010 the shares of Associated Journals were transferred to Young India. Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi own 76 per cent stake in the company. BJP senior leader Subramanian Swamy has filed a case alleging irregularities in the share exchange. A case related to this is pending in the court.
Meanwhile, the Enforcement Division has also filed a separate case alleging foreign exchange fraud in the stock exchange case. The Enforcement Division summoned Sonia and Rahul to appear before it on June 8. Sonia had asked for a chance to appear on a different date as she was suffering from corona. Similarly, Rahul Gandhi, who was on a trip abroad, was also asking for permission.
Following this, the new summons was sent by the enforcement officers to present Rahul Gandhi on the 13th. A new summons has been issued to Sonia to appear on the 23rd.
Rahul Gandhi, who accepted the summons, appeared before enforcement officials yesterday. Earlier, thousands of volunteers and executives marched from the Delhi Congress headquarters to the Rahul Gandhi Enforcement Division office to protest the BJP-led central government’s move.
A total of 144 restraining orders were enforced in front of the Enforcement Division office, where police were concentrated. Thus, Rahul gave up walking to the rally and went to the enforcement division office in the car.
Authorities began an investigation into Rahul Gandhi, who entered the office. His confession was recorded by 2 enforcement officers.
Enforcement officials questioned Rahul Gandhi about his relationship with the Associated Journals and Young India, Rahul’s role in Young India, why the Congress party decided to lend and the documents that provided the lending.
The trial began at 11 a.m. and lasted until 2.30 p.m. During his lunch break, Rahul Gandhi met his mother Sonia Gandhi, who was receiving treatment at the hospital. Following that, Rahul Gandhi returned to the Enforcement Headquarters at 4.30 pm and answered questions from the authorities. The trial lasted until 9.30pm.
Congress demonstrations across the country
Protests on behalf of the Congress party were held in various cities across the country, including Delhi, against the enforcement of the Enforcement Inquiry into Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
Accompanying Rahul at the rally in Delhi were Congress general secretary Priyanka, Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Kelad, Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Bagel, senior leaders P. Chidambaram, Adir Ranjan Chaudhary, KC Venugopal, Deebender Singh Hooda, state assembly opposition leader Mallikarjuna Kharge, Jai Participants included. They were taken away by the police and taken to the police station. KC Venugopal had a blood pressure test due to ill health.
The Congress party has said that P. Chidambaram was pushed by the police during the protest, in which he suffered a fractured left rib. Similarly enforcement offices in various cities across the country have previously been involved in congressional protests. Congressmen staged protests in 25 cities, including Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore, Thiruvananthapuram, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Bhopal, Lucknow, Patna, Chandigarh, Ranchi and Raipur.
