Away from the library, others bought their own books and started creating a small world of reading. Although there is a general assessment that the new generation is a bit behind in reading, the adoption of books in digital form is a hope for the future of reading, a great hope that reading is not dying in any way.
National Reading Day is observed on June 19 every year. PN opened the wide world of reading to Malayali. Panicker’s death day is June 19. P. started life as an author. N. In 1926 Kerala Granthshala Sangam was formed as a result of his activities like reading tour and establishment of Sanatana Dharmam library in his native land. He was also able to bring thousands of libraries in the state, which were functioning without a centralized system, under the Kerala Library Association. That is why P. is called the hero of the Granthsala movement. N Panicker is known. Kerala Public Libraries Act was passed by the Government as a result of his constant efforts. It was his long time dream that the government should come up with a special law to protect reading.
