Chennai: UDT 84th Inter-State U-17, U-19 National Table Tennis Tournament starts tomorrow (8th) at Chennai Nehru Indoor Stadium. The tournament is organized by the Tamil Nadu Table Tennis Association with the support of the Table Tennis Federation of India. The Tamil Nadu Table Tennis Association is now hosting the National Championship after 15 years. More than 1300 players from 30 states and organizations are going to participate in this series which will be held on the 16th.
Competitions will be held in team, individual and doubles categories. 16 people from Tamil Nadu are participating in the team category, 15 in the boys category and 15 in the girls category. The total prize money of this series is Rs.6.6 lakh. The winner of the U-19 category for both genders will be awarded Rs 72,000 each and a medal. The 2nd runner-up will get Rs 36,000, semi-finalists will get Rs 19,000 and quarter-finalists will get Rs 8,000.
Meanwhile, the winner of the U-17 category for both genders will be awarded Rs.60,000 each. Rs.30 thousand will be given to the 2nd place winners. The opening ceremony will be held tomorrow at 5 pm. Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Udayanidhi Stalin will be the chief guest and inaugurate the tournament.
Tamil Nadu Table Tennis Association President D. Devanathan, Secretary AV Vidyasagar, Vice President Muralidhara Rao, Tournament Coordinator Ganesan jointly informed this information.
