Jesus Navas, Sevilla’s captain and the most capped player in the Andalusian club’s history, will leave at the end of the season, the club announced Thursday.
The 38-year-old won eight titles during two stops over 17 seasons in the jersey of the team in which he began his career.
“Navas will leave Sevilla at the end of the 2023-24 season… The captain informed the club, his teammates and the technical staff of his decision during a training session this morning,” the club’s statement said.
Navas played 688 matches for Sevilla in all competitions, including his 500th match in the Spanish League in midweek.
The former Spanish international succeeded in scoring 39 goals with 119 assists during his years in Seville, where he began his career as a winger before later occupying the right-back position.
In his tally of titles, he won the European League title four times, the Spanish Cup twice, in addition to the European Super Cup title and the Spanish Super Cup once.
In 2013, the player left for Manchester City, where he won the local league title and the League Cup twice before returning to Seville in 2017.
Navas won more titles and played more matches with Sevilla than any other player in the club’s history.
With his country’s national team, he won the 2010 World Cup, the 2012 European Cup and the 2023 European Nations League.
