34-year-old Mohit Sharma was the net bowler of Gujarat Titans last season. In the current season, he won the man of the match award in his first match for the same team. Let’s see his comeback story.
Right-arm medium fast bowler Mohit Sharma hails from Haryana. He is a part of the domestic cricket circuit for his state team. In the 2012-13 Ranji Trophy season, he took 37 wickets in 7 matches. As a result, he got an opportunity to play IPL cricket. Chennai Super Kings contacted him.
Playing for Chennai in his first IPL season (2013), he took 20 wickets in 15 matches. That gave him an opportunity to play for the Indian team. He played 26 ODIs and 8 T20Is for India between 2013 and 2015. He has taken a total of 37 wickets.
On the other hand, he continued his IPL journey with Chennaiyin until the 2015 season. He took 58 wickets in 48 matches for Chennai. In the 2014 season, he took 23 wickets and won the Purple Cap. He then played for Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab) from 2016 to 2018. He played 37 matches for that team and took 33 wickets. He rejoined CSK in the 2019 season. He played for Delhi Capitals in the 2020 season. He is not on any team for the 2021 season.
After that, he joined Gujarat Titans, a new team in the IPL arena, as a net bowler in the last season (2022). The main reason for that seems to be the head coach of the team, Nehra. Mojit Sharma’s inclusion as a net bowler in the team is likely to be his move. Mohit worked as a net bowler throughout the last season.
2023 Season: In the current season, he was picked up by the Gujarat team. Mohit Sharma has been given a chance in the playing XI against Punjab in the 18th league match of the season. Mohit came to bowl after 10 overs. After throwing 4 overs, he gave only 18 runs and took 2 wickets. Gujarat won the match by 6 wickets. He also won the man of the match award.
“We have to train hard. It should be our 100 percent. Just focus on the basics. The ball should be bowled to the field environment. The role I was given was to bowl after 10 overs. The coach clearly plans each person’s role in the team. This honor belongs to him,” said Mohit Sharma after the match.
