The main objective of the new agreements is to create a healthy investment environment in the country. This will benefit small and medium entrepreneurs and investors in a big way. Shaikh Nasser Bin Amar Al Hoss, Under Secretary of Labor at the Ministry of Labor, said that the new procedures will enable those seeking better opportunities to continue with legal employment status.
Oman has stepped up inspections by the Ministry of Labor to detect illegal traders and illegal workers in the country. Inspection has been tightened in different areas of Oman since January 1. The Labor Ministry had signed an agreement with the Security and Safety Corporation in December. As a part of this, inspections of employment violations were strengthened.
In the first phase, the inspection was conducted in four governorates namely Muscat, Dhofar and North-South Bathina. Many illegal workers have already been caught from these places. The authorities have decided to strengthen the inspection in other places as the number of criminals being caught is increasing.
All private institutions are subjected to strong scrutiny. Residence documents should be corrected, visa should be renewed, labor card should be renewed if expired. Moreover, if foreigners work in posts reserved for natives, they will face legal action. Oman is moving ahead with these types of projects with the aim of controlling illegal workers from the labor market. The authorities have clarified that such projects are necessary to control the labor market.
