Dubai: Bangladesh and Sri Lanka teams clashed yesterday in the Asia Cup cricket series which is being held in the United Arab Emirates. Chasing a target of 184 runs, Sri Lanka won by losing 8 wickets in 19.2 overs. It was the 2nd defeat for Bangladesh. Thus exited from the series.
Bangladesh team gave 17 runs to spare against Sri Lanka. It includes 4 no-balls. Importantly, in the 20th over of the match, Mehidi Hasan bowled a no-ball when Sri Lanka needed 4 runs off the last 3 balls. Through this, the Sri Lankan team secured the victory by getting 3 runs easily and progressed to the Super 4 round.
Bangladesh captain Shakib Alhassan said, “We did not bowl well in the final part of the game. In terms of batting, we scored 10 to 15 more runs than expected. Mehdi Hasan has performed well in domestic competitions. It is a crime for spinners to bowl no-balls. We bowled too many no-balls and wides. I think we were under pressure. With the World Cup in mind, more attention should be paid to this matter. We want to see gradual progress,” he said.
