British McLaren driver Lando Norris described his first coronation at the Yas Marina Circuit and his dedication to the team to win the World Manufacturers’ Championship as an “incredible feeling.”
Norris’s statements came after his coronation ceremony, the day before yesterday, with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the conclusion of the Formula 1 racing season, during which the McLaren team was able to win the World Manufacturers’ Championship title for the first time in 26 years.
Norris said in press statements after the race: “The insistence that the team recover from the difficulties it faced at the beginning of the season makes clinching the constructors’ title in the final round an incredible achievement.”
He explained: “Getting from where we were at the start of the season to where we are now is a real achievement, and I am very proud of everyone, and it is ideal for us to end the season in this way, and of course we will celebrate this victory a lot.”
Norris pointed out that the performance presented by the Ferrari drivers, especially the dramatic recovery of Charles Leclerc, and the great progress he achieved during the race in which he started from 19th place made the McLaren team feel pressure in its battle with Ferrari for the constructors’ title, and he said: “My colleague’s slip Piastri, who started next to me from second place at the first turn, allowed Ferrari’s Spaniard Carlos Sainz to take second place, and Leclerc was able to make a good start. “By advancing 11 places in the first lap at once, it increased the tension within the McLaren ranks.”
He continued: “I was watching the big screens around the circuit while I was driving the race, and I saw Leclerc jumping within one lap from the penultimate position to be in eighth place, which made me a little nervous, and increased my determination to focus on myself, and try to get away and put a comfortable difference from Sainz behind me. However, Sainz remained consistent and was not far from me, and I think that the difference before entering the pit garage to 4.2 seconds was not large, especially since Carlos was able to reduce the gap on lap 27, after… We completed the stop in less than two seconds.”

Heptathlon World Champion Lewis Hamilton revealed his feelings in his last race with the Mercedes team, especially after he knelt next to his car on the starting grid. Hamilton said in press statements: “I have no more tears left as I bid farewell to my 12 seasons with (Mercedes), during an emotional race in the (Abu Dhabi Grand Prix) at the end of the (Formula 1) season.”

Hamilton summarized his career with Mercedes by saying: “We certainly faced wonderful moments and bad moments. There were certain feelings that pushed me to choose a different direction, and it was not easy for many to accept and overcome that.”
He added: “It was a volatile year, probably the longest in my life, because we knew from the beginning of the season that the moment to say goodbye had come, and it is like a relationship in which you tell your partner that you are leaving, but you continue to live together for an entire season.”
