With tears in his eyes, Ary Borges, 23, tried to describe the emotion of debuting in the World Cup with three in the thrashing of Brazil over Panama, this Monday (24th), by 4-0, in Adelaide, Australia.
“Not even in my best dreams did I imagine”, said the midfielder about her gala performance against the Panamanians. “It was a very special day. There were a lot of emotions,” she added.
With the three goals scored, shirt number 17 is the top scorer in the competition. “I expected to make a good debut, but I didn’t imagine it could be the way it was. But I’m much happier for the match we played”, said Ary.
In the second half, the scorer gave way to Marta, who started the match on the bench. The star of the canary cast made a point of exalting the teammate’s performance.
“I’m so happy for her. Scoring three goals in a debut isn’t that easy. She’s very blessed. She scored three and gave an assist. It was almost four (laughs)”, said the number 10.
When Marta entered the field, the match was already 4-0. Bia Zaneratto had also left hers on the scoreboard. With the advantage, the other players who entered the field had more tranquility to play their first minutes.
“After we scored the fourth, we went up and kept trying to do more. The girls who entered were in the mood to score a goal because the game gave us that situation”, evaluates Marta.
