New Delhi: The Congress party has strongly criticized the budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman saying that there is nothing for the poor.
Talking to the media, Congress leader Mallikarjuna Kharge said, “The central government has given this budget keeping in mind the upcoming 3rd and 4th assembly elections. There is nothing for the poor in this budget. There are no measures to control inflation.
“Similarly, nothing has been mentioned in this budget to increase employment, fill vacant government jobs, or the Mahatma Gandhi Employment Guarantee Scheme,” he alleged.
Commenting on the budget, former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said, “There are some good things in this budget. However, nothing was mentioned in the budget about the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, rural poor workers, employment, inflation etc. He criticized that there is no answer to various basic questions in this budget.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has criticized this budget as anti-poor. “This budget is not visionary. This is an opportunistic budget. This is an anti-people, anti-poor budget. This budget will benefit only one class.
There is no solution in this budget for unemployment in the country. This budget has been prepared keeping in mind the upcoming 2024 parliamentary elections,” he said.
