Dunedin: Kim Cotton has become the first female umpire in a T20 international between men’s cricket teams that is a full member of the International Cricket Council. He acted as the field umpire in the second T20 match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand held today.
The 48-year-old has refereed 54 women’s T20Is and 24 ODIs since 2018. A native of New Zealand. He had worked as a TV umpire in the Hamilton match between India and New Zealand in 2020. That seems to be the first match he refereed in men’s cricket.
Since 2018, he has officiated three T20 World Cups and one ODI World Cup series. This includes the 2020, 2022 and 2023 finals.
Sri Lanka lost the toss and batted first in this match. 141 runs in 19 overs and lost all wickets. New Zealand reached the target of 142 runs in 14.4 overs. It won the match by 9 wickets.
