Sydney: Former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist has said that the BCCI may appoint former captain Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar as advisors to the Indian cricket team in the upcoming World Cup series. Gilchrist was part of Australia’s three-time World Cup winning team.
He disclosed this in a recent interview with Hindu Group’s Sportsstar. He also said that India, Australia, New Zealand and Pakistan have a chance to play in the semi-finals of the World Cup this time.
“If I was in the governing body of Indian cricket I would discuss Dhoni and Sachin with the Indian players. Through this their experience will be passed on to the players. Similarly, I will share the experience of Yuvraj Singh who played in the World Cup series held in India in 2011. It is worth noting that Virat Kohli is a member of the team then and now. I hope this will help the players face the World Cup series in their home country effectively,” said Gilchrist.
The Cricket World Cup 2023 series will be held from October 5 to November 19 across 10 cities in India. India will host the series. India, reigning champion England, Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa, New Zealand, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Netherlands are participating in the tournament. It is to be noted that there is no right-arm spinner in the 15-man Indian squad for this series. Before that, India will play Australia in a 3-match ODI series.
