New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party has alleged that the central government’s plan of ‘one country, one election’ is against the constitution.
Speaking to reporters in Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party senior leader and member of Legislative Assembly Atishi said, “This project is a conspiracy of the BJP. It aims to make the elected representatives of the people like buying and selling goods and legitimizing it.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is proposing this project with the aim of replacing the parliamentary democratic system with a presidential system. If no party gets a majority, this will lead to MLAs/MPs electing the Chief Minister/Prime Minister at will without party control. It would be putting the country in the hands of the party with more money and more power.
If the elections to the Assembly and the Parliament are held simultaneously, people’s issues will not be discussed. Money and power control everything. In such an environment, the democratic system disappears and it becomes a game of money and power.
The Aam Aadmi Party has submitted its 12-page report on ‘One Nation One Election’ to the National Law Commission. In it, it has listed the effects of the implementation of the ‘one country, one election’ system.
